A little short post expressing my love for my grandmother, Beatrice Howard.
She went to be with the Lord a year from today and I had no idea her death would affect me as much as it is. I love you Grandma!

March-Women's Month!

Hello again!
I know ya'll don't wanna be reading a history blog but I promise it's just Feb/March that I will do this.
March is women's history month and I choose to acknowledge:
SHIRLEY CHISHOLM!
I remember reading about her as I was a little girl and she really has some interesting facts. so read up:
1. she's British Guiana and Barbados [grammatical check!] but married a Jamaican!
2. participated in local politics and started the Unity Democratic Club
3. held a seat in the legislative office, where she prepared bills and fought for them
4. became the first African-American woman to hold office in Congress!
5. 1972 she ran for presidency for the Democratic party
I really love women's month because ever since 2nd semester my freshman year I have developed a love for women's appreciation. In a way, I guess you can say I'm a feminist. I believe women should be treated equal to men, which in some cases they're not!
anyway, I'm not going into details about this!

Black History
Unfortunately, I was not able to support February's Black History Month like I wanted! So, I am going to do it now because I feel like I should pay respect to those who have made it way easier for me to actually walk the Earth!
My Black History person for 2010 is [drum roll pls!]:
JOHN HOPE!

why did i choose him? bc i wanted someone who wasn't that well known [Muhammed Ali or MLK or Harriet Tubman. u get my drift]
anyway! JOHN HOPE was
1. the first African-American president of Morehouse College
2. 23 yrs later he became the first president of Atlanta Univeristy [bka Clark-Atlanta]; bc of this, CAU became the first school to concentrate on graduate schooling for African Americans!
3. he was a race leader
4. he was active w NAACP [i love this organization]
